Going Within

I presented on this topic, of going within, a couple of weeks ago at our spirituality group, and thought i would share the information/quotes here.  I hope it can be enjoyed by others, and offer something to contemplate.

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. ~Carl Jung

“you will undertake a journey because you are not at home in this world. And you will search for your home whether you realize where it is or not. If you believe it is outside you the search will be futile, for you will be seeking it where it is not. You do not remember how to look within for you do not believe your home is there. Yet the holy spirit/higher self remembers it for you, and will guide you to your home, because that is it’s mission. As he fulfills his mission, he will teach you yours, for your mission is the same.”ACIM T 224

“In the west people treat awareness as a thought process rather than a heart mind process. But our awareness actually comes from the heart-mind. Shifting our identification from the ego the heart-mind is the beginning of individual spiritual work. That pure awareness is the territory of the soul one way to understand spiritual work within an individual incarnation is to see it as a process of shifting from identifying with our ego to identifying with the soul or spiritual self. The quality of the soul is not just awareness, but also love and compassion, peace, and wisdom.” Ram dass.

“ There is an inmost center in us all where truth abides in fullness, and around, wall upon wall, the gross flesh hems it in. this perfect clear perception which is truth , a baffling and perverted carnal mesh binds it and makes all error. and to know, rather consists in opening out a way, whence the imprisoned splendor may escape.” james allen

why wait for heaven‘s peace? Those who seek the light are merely covering their eyes. The light is in them now. Enlightenment is but a recognition, not a change at all. This light can not be lost. Why wait to find it in the future, or believe it has been lost already, or was never there? It can so easily be looked upon that arguments which prove it is not there become ridiculous. Who can deny the presence of what he beholds in him? It is not difficult to look within, for there all vision starts. There is no sight, be it of dreams from a truer Source, that is not but the shadow of the seen through inward vision. There perception starts, and there it ends. It has no source but this.” acim wb188

For though god be everywhere present, yet he is only present to thee in the deepest and most central part of thy soul. Thy natural senses cannot possess God or unite thee to him; nay, thy inward faculties of understanding, will and memory, can only reach after God, but cannot be the place of his habitation in thee. But there is a root or depth in thee from whence all these faculties come forth, as lines from a centre or as branches from the body of the tree. This depth is called the centre, the fund, or bottom of the soul. This depth is the unity, the eternity, I had almost said the infinity of thy soul; for it is so infinite that nothing can satisfy it or give it any rest but the infinity of god.” William law.

“the Self, smaller than the small, greater than the great, is hidden in the heart of every creature. A man who is free from desires and free from grief sees the majesty of the Self by the grace of the creator.” Upanishads.

Referring to the above quote of the Upanishads: “This mystery is hidden in the heart of every man, but we fail to see it: we are turned in on ourselves and not touched by the grace of the creator. But there are some in all ages and all times who wake to this knowledge, who know the truth, these are the seers, the prophets, the wise men. The Buddha was such an enlightened one, and so were the seers of the Upanishads, so were Lao Tzu and Zoroaster, and the Hebrew prophets, and plato and Plotinus, so were the sufi mystics. In every religion and in every country this mystery ahs been made known.” Bede Griffiths

“when there is silence one finds peace. When there is silence one finds the anchor of the universe within himself.” Lao Tzu

Q: It has been said that for us to see God we must "go within". If I decide to meditate twice a day, for say three years, what can I expect to happen? Will I get definite results?
A - “You don't have to wait three years. Do a half-hour of meditation a day, but true meditation is like the pouring of water from one vessel to another, with the current of your mind flowing toward God. If you can do that for half an hour, then you will attain samadhi. But to reach that state it might take three years or three lives, depending upon how much effort you put into it: Usually our minds run away somewhere else.

We don't work hard enough to stop our mind in its wandering. It all depends on how much effort we employ. It's the quality that counts, not the quantity. If you think of God for even five seconds, those are five blessed moments in your life.

The other moments are in vain, wasted moments. So make your life blessed every moment by thinking of the Lord every moment. We must have purity of heart. What is the sign of this purity? It is when the natural tendency of your mind is to flow toward God. When you attain this state, you will see God.” Swami Vivekananda

What exactly does it mean to reconnect from within? Creating the life we desire and deserve is an 'Inside Job'. All that we require to live a life filled with joy, love, peace and prosperity is to look inside and to connect with the pure essence of who we are - our True Self or as many like to refer as - our Higher Self. There is nothing outside of us that can provide us with joy unconditionally and without limitations. When we rely on the world outside of us for our happiness we experience ups and downs, moments of total joy and elation, then we move into the fear that it will not last and eventually the feeling of - what goes up must come down and there goes our joy.

We have allowed ourselves to become distracted by our Ego Mind and forgotten that all the answers and guidance we require comes from our Higher Self mind - our True Self. Our Higher Self is the most perfect form of who we are. Our Higher Self is there to support us always in all ways. It is an Infinite Source of help and guidance within us.

In reviewing the lessons in A Course In Miracles Daily Lesson #189 reads - I feel the love of God within me now. This lesson goes on to say: "The way to reach the God within us (our Higher Self) is merely to let our Higher Self/God Self be." In doing so we will hear and feel the beauty of our connection to our Higher Self. Our Higher Self always desires to connect with us. Our Higher Self never goes away it is who we truly are.

Our Higher Self helps us recognize what is meaningless and what is really important to our awakening and to our enlightenment. Our Higher Self:

-Knows we are NOT here to impress others with our specialness but rather to awaken to our True Self and recognize we are all one - no one is special

-Uses every experience we have to teach us how to look beyond appearances to the innate innocence and pure Love Essence in everyone - including ourselves

-Gives us deep insight - a broader and unfiltered perspective of who we truly are - which is pure love and innocence. Our True Self never changes its mind about who we are.

-Sees through the eyes of unity and oneness. It does not see lack, guilt, fear, scarcity or separation of any kind.

-Knows [without doubt] we are changeless love

Often times when we think of our True Self we think of it as something outside or separate. We tend to feel separated from who we really are. The truth is we are our True Self. We have never been separated. We have merely forgotten and we have created barriers that prevent us from connecting to this loving, joyful and peaceful aspect of ourselves.

How do we know when we are listening to our Ego Mind instead of our Higher Self? If you are not experiencing peace in your life, or if you find yourself blaming someone or something in the world for your discomfort, you are making the ego thought system real in your mind. If your life experience is full of peace and joy, you are opening to the thoughts of your true, united Self.

Your true Self is patient because it knows you already are at home in Oneness and so is everyone else. Messages from your true Self you Inner Guide are quiet and peaceful. They carry an energizing and loving feeling. They do not carry an intense charge of emotion such as tension, anxiety or urgency. There is no impatience, anger or blame.

Ego messages may make you feel like you must act immediately or you will lose out or miss an opportunity to defend yourself or someone else. They carry a sense of losing or danger from an outside source.

Quiet your mind and join with your True Self in living the life you desire and deserve.
